The Departments of State and Agriculture's new pass program, "American the Beautiful," replaced the existing national park passes, but they are not available for purchase online through AAA. The pass can be obtained in person at a participating Federal recreation site or office, by calling 1-888-ASK USGS, Ext. 1, or online at store.usgs.gov/pass.
The new pass program was created by Congress in the Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act of 2004. The intent is to have one pass that can be used for entry to national parks, wildlife refuges, Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management public lands. While access to most public lands remains free, the new interagency pass allows the holder access to any federal lands where an entrance or standard amenity fees are charged.
